Absolutely. Grieving someone who is still alive is a very real and often misunderstood experience known as anticipatory grief. When someone you love has dementia, you may find yourself mourning the gradual loss of their memories, personality, independence, and the relationship you once shared. This emotional journey, often called the long goodbye, can bring sadness, guilt, anger, and loneliness.

You can deeply love someone and still grieve the changes dementia brings. Therapy offers a compassionate space to process these complicated emotions, navigate the uncertainty of caregiving, and find support as you learn to honor both the person your loved one was and the person they are today. Making the decision to move a parent into memory care can bring overwhelming feelings of guilt, sadness, and self-doubt—even when you know it's necessary for their safety and well-being. You may question whether you've done enough or feel you've somehow let them down. Therapy can help you work through caregiver guilt, recognize the love behind difficult decisions, and find greater peace while navigating this emotional transition. LEARN MORE

You may feel constantly exhausted, irritable, anxious, overwhelmed, or disconnected from your own needs. Therapy can help you recognize signs of burnout, establish healthier boundaries, manage stress, and rediscover ways to care for yourself while continuing to support someone you love. LEARN MORE
